When Mill Stephenson died in 1937 he had set the standards of scholarship in the study of monumetal brasses which surprassed those of his predecessors and have been equalled by few since. His particular gift was to collect and collate and by virtue of his tireless and painstaking efforts it seems unlikely that his treatment of the county in which he lived will ever need an updated appendix.
