One of the first major autobiographies ever written and covering the first fifty-three years of Rousseau's life, up to 1765, it was completed in 1769, but not published until 1782, four years after Rousseau's death, even though Rousseau did read excerpts of his manuscript publicly at various salons and other meeting places.

Based on information on the publisher the book was published after 1853 when the second location for the booksellers opened on rue de saint peres. 

Leather spine with marbled paper boards. Corners rubbed and bumped and notable edge-wear , some thinning along hinges on spine. Marble endpapers. Tightly bound and clean interior with minimal foxing. Very good condition.
