Early English edition of this influential Protestant polemic against the papacy, written by the French Huguenot statesman and theologian Philippe de Mornay (1549–1623) and translated into English by Samson Lennard. The work traces the historical development of papal authority and argues against the political and religious power of Rome.

The engraved title features the striking Tower of Babel woodcut emblem, a visual allegory frequently associated with Reformation critiques of the papacy.
